The ending should have written itself for Emily McCormack. The FC Stars East U-18/19 Composite team entered the ECNL National Playoffs championship game in the midst of an incredible 26-game unbeaten streak.
McCormack — a rising high school senior at East Bridgewater (Mass.) High School and a UMass commit — scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick to give FC Stars a 1-0 lead over California powerhouse So Cal Blues.
Everything appeared set right on course. Unfortunately for McCormack and FC Stars, her tally represented their only goal of the game. So Cal Blues would go on to win, 6-1, and bring the Stars’ run to a sudden halt.
