The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact has reached Division III soccer, with UMass Boston interim chancellor Katherine Newman announcing Monday that fall-semester plans mean the Little East school won’t compete in 2020.
The news arrives after the conference announced June 5 a commitment to athletics returning during 2020-21. Previously, the virus caused winter championships and spring sports to be cancelled across the NCAA.
As of now, none of the other eight Little East schools have announced that fall sports won’t be occurring. Further, UMass Boston is part of the University of Massachusetts system, with other branches in Amherst, Dartmouth and Lowell still plowing ahead.
