Tyler Freitas simply couldn’t catch a break.
As the 2016-17 Development Academy season wound down, he went into a tackle with New England Revolution Academy teammate Izaiah Jennings (Barrington, R.I.), who’s now a sophomore at Louisville. Playing up with the Revs’ U-19s, he tore ligaments in his ankle, missing that summer’s DA playoffs and, thus, a prime college recruiting opportunity.
The North Attleboro, Mass., native sat out the summer and returned healthy for the 2017-18 season. But a few games into the fall, Freitas blocked a cross-field switch and he heard a pop. His ligaments were torn. Again.
Surgery was required on his right ankle and he was sidelined for six months.
