UMass Lowell graduate student forward Stanley Alves (Framingham, Mass.) has signed a professional contract with USL League One side Richmond Kickers, New England Soccer Journal has learned.
Alves becomes the second local player at the storied club from Virginia, with former UMass midfielder Matt Bolduc (Dublin, N.H.) also on the roster that's coached by Darren Sawatzky, a New England Revolution player from 1996-97.
The 23-year-old had other options – he spent last summer playing with the New England Revolution U-23s – but felt the best course of action was seizing the opportunity ahead of him.
