In the fall of 2018, Wayland returned to its perch atop the Massachusetts soccer scene. With a penalty-kick shootout victory over defending champion Nipmuc (playing in its third consecutive championship game), the boys’ Division 3 state championship trophy returned to this idyllic suburban enclave.
“Watching senior goalkeeper Nick Smith make the final save was a great ending to a season I will never forget,” Wayland boys soccer head coach David Gavron said.
The victory secured another favorable ending for Wayland, as the team earned its third championship in five seasons and fourth overall.
