Chris Tierney has been involved in several rebuilding attempts by the New England Revolution.
The Wellesley, Mass., native was in the lineup for coach Steve Nicol’s last success, the 2008 North American SuperLiga; he started as Jay Heaps guided the Revolution to the 2014 MLS Cup final; and gained a starting position in Brad Friedel’s first year as coach last season.
But Tierney will be unable to follow through on the Revolution’s latest project, as he's set to announce his retirement Thursday afternoon. The 32-year-old was a standout at Noble & Greenough, plus played extensively for the Boston Bolts before embarking on a college soccer career at the University of Virginia.
Several local players advanced to the pro ranks from Tierney’s generation.
