During the past few NWSL seasons, the list of New England-born goalkeepers began and ended with U.S. women’s national team starter Alyssa Naeher (Stratford, Conn.), a longtime Chicago Red Stars player.
That register will double during the 2021 campaign after Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) signed a one-year contract with Portland Thorns FC earlier this month, leaving her Providence College days behind.
Hogan, the 2019 Big East Goalkeeper of the Year, is a former U.S. U-18 women’s national team player who traces her youth roots to Bishop Feehan (Mass.) High School and the FC Stars ECNL program.
