With several prominent figures in Division I men’s soccer New England participating, the Soccer Collective On Racial Equity (SCORE) released a new initiative last week that’s geared toward expanding opportunities for Black coaches at the collegiate level.
Northeastern coach Chris Gbandi, Dartmouth coach Bo Oshoniyi and UConn coach Ray Reid have all joined the Clive Charles Diversity Hiring Initiative, with that trio taking an active role in breaking down barriers facing minority candidates.
The initiative was crafted by SCORE executive board member Allen Hopkins and keeps a list of qualified coaches who can increase representation across the D-I ranks. Among other things, SCORE’s initiative establishes a formal process that increases interviews and builds a "ready list" of qualified men and women.
