FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A crowded early schedule and slow start to the MLS season left many of the Revolution’s young players out in the cold.
The situation tested the resolve of Malcolm Fry (Groton, Mass.), who was feeling unsure of his place on the 29-man roster.
That was until one March day, while the Revolution were preparing to meet FC Cincinnati, when Fry was approached by veteran striker Bobby Wood.
"He said, 'don’t worry, you’re a young player,'" Fry recalled during a recent interview. '"This happens to everyone. You’re doing everything right, like, we all can see it.' Coming from Bobby, that meant a lot to me. Coaches give you validation and that’s important, but when your peers show they believe in you, that’s the thing that’s most special to me."
