
Naturally, the soccer paths of Class of 2022 goalkeepers Ava King and Kyla King – twin sisters from Hamden, Conn. – have been intertwined. They both compete for Sacred Heart Academy and Connecticut FC's ECNL program, plus approach the position in near-identical ways.
But college soccer will produce a fork in the road, with each player reaching a verbal commitment in recent weeks. They’ll both stay in New York state, with Ava settling on Stony Brook and Kyla choosing Fordham.
Based on New England Soccer Journal’s recruiting database, they’re the region's first Class of 2022 goalkeepers to verbally commit. And while the 17-year-olds could have remained intertwined at the Division I level, making that happen had some challenges.
