Another high school season is in the books and the final weeks of the 2024 season were filled with outstanding tournament play, drama and excitement.
The MIAA tournament here in Massachusetts is a wonderful display of what high school sports is all about. There were several amazing storylines, but my favorite was what the Oliver Ames High School boys program accomplished.
Oliver Ames, under head coach John Barata, won its third consecutive MIAA Division 2 state championship. Oliver Ames had previously won the D2 state championship in 2022, when it defeated Hopkinton 3-2 in the state final. In 2023, OA was back in the state final, where it defeated Wakefield in overtime, and this came after defeating Melrose in the 2023 semifinal in overtime as well.
