Podcast: Reflecting on an eventful 2025 NEPSAC season

On the latest episode of “The Goal” podcast, we recapped the 2025 NEPSAC season.

The New England prep campaign wrapped up on Sunday, Nov. 16 with championship games.

On the boys side, Taft (Class A), Mount Saint Charles (Class B), Millbrook School (Class C) and Hyde School (Class D) won crowns at the Brooks School.

On the girls side, Miss Porter’s (Class A), St. George’s (Class B), Greens Farms Academy (Class C) and Vermont Academy (Class D) claimed championships.

Hosts Matt Langone and Matt Doherty discuss teams and players that impressed this fall, along with memorable moments, and also weigh-in on who might contend in 2026. 

Here are some highlights from our discussion:

On how the Class A and B championships ended on the boys side:

Langone: “I think maybe those were the only two predictable things in this NEPSAC season. Taft was the best team in Class A by far, and Mount Saint Charles was the best team in Class B by far. And they both came home with the trophy that day, as it should be. I mean, they were the only two unbeaten teams in class A or B in boys NEPSAC, so they just rose above everybody else.”

On surprises from the boys season:

Langone: “I feel like a team like Berkshire, which I was super-high on coming into the season and had so much talent — four Division 1 commits before the season even started — to kind of have that off season and not make the playoffs was a real surprise to me. I think another interesting turn of events was Loomis Chaffee, which for probably the first two-thirds of the season was right there kind of neck-and-neck with Taft, in terms of dominance — the only loss was at the NXT LVL Invitational to Woodstock Academy, which is a non-NEPSAC team. Loomis looked like the one team that might be able to challenge Taft, and then some struggles down the stretch, maybe some injuries, maybe some untimely cards — red cards — hurt Loomis and ultimately kind of put a damper on what was looking like it was going to be a really promising season.”

On a team that impressed on the girls side:

Langone: “Porter’s winning the Class A championship on the girls side was a phenomenal run. I mean, that Class A on the girls’ side of things is a gauntlet with Buckingham Browne & Nichols and Worcester Academy, and all these powerhouse programs, and Choate and Westminster and Loomis. And for Miss Porter’s to come out of that with a championship is as great a run as we’ve seen.”
