The playoffs are just days away in New England prep soccer.
On the latest episode of New England Soccer Journal’s “The Goal” podcast, we broke down the upcoming NEPSAC boys and girls playoffs.
Matt Doherty, Matt Langone and Mike Zhe offer an in-depth preview of the NEPSAC boys and girls soccer tournaments, which begin with quarterfinal play next Wednesday and conclude with championships in Class A, B, C and D on Sunday, Nov. 16. They discussed potential matchups and top teams, and speculated on the brackets, with special attention to Class A and Class B on both the boys and girls side of things.

On the girls Class A playoffs:
Zhe: “I think what we have in Class A, when you’re looking at the projected field, is you have four tiers. And I think that’s the way I’m most comfortable describing it, and in the top tier you have Miss Porter’s, the Founder’s League champion at 15-1-1, and Loomis Chaffee at 14-1-0.”

On a storyline in the boys Class A playoffs:
Langone: “It’s pretty remarkable what Taft has done. If you think about it, I mean, they’ve been wire-to-wire the No. 1 team in our NEPSAC rankings. Taft has been incredible — a 29-match unbeaten streak right now, they haven’t lost since October of 2024.”
On what makes the NEPSAC playoffs so special:
Langone: “I would say the sheer schedule. Having to win three games in a five-day span is kind of insane. … Having to win three soccer games from a Wednesday-to-Sunday span, and to dive deeper into that, to have to win a semifinal on a Saturday and then come back and play less than 24 hours later, in some cases, to win a championship on Sunday. A lot of times, it comes down to health and who’s hurt, who’s not — who’s injured, who’s not. There is some luck involved with injuries and things like that. But it’s just a crazy race to a finish, and I think that’s what separates it.”
