Diego Zaffanella (Ellington, Conn.), a center mid and captain for Oakwood’s U-17 MLS NEXT team, has verbally committed to the Class of 2022 at Yale University.
Zaffanella, 16, also faced interest from other Division I programs in the Ivy League and Patriot League, plus some NESCAC ones (Division III), but the prospect of joining head coach Kylie Stannard’s project in nearby New Haven, Conn., proved enticing.
The Bulldogs won the Ivy League last year to continue their upward climb, and their Class of 2021 is particularly notable with U.S. youth international winger Andres Jasson (Greenwich, Conn.) serving as a headliner.
