During the 2015 season, Amy Joyce wanted to ease Allie Winstanley into things. The head coach at Noble and Greenough, Joyce knew the Concord, Mass., native was a talented player, but freshmen — especially a small-statured one — merit some patience.
“I wanted her to earn her spot, so I actually didn’t start her against (Phillips Exeter),” Joyce said.
Winstanley, undeterred, subbed in during the first half. She scored three goals. Mission accomplished.
“I guess she earned it,” Joyce said with a laugh.
