Early this month, the New England Revolution got off on the right foot in preparing for their 24th season in Major League Soccer.
But after winning, losing and drawing in matches against three Europa League teams in Marbella, Spain, the club has tailed off – just when it should be building cohesion and confidence in preparation for a season-opening visit to FC Dallas on March 2.
A 3-1 loss to Louisville City in Bradenton, Fla., might have signaled alarm, since the Revolution were taken by surprise and fell behind by three goals. The Revolution could have been better-prepared, especially since they had been eliminated by Louisville City in the U.S. Open Cup last year.
Two more defeats followed in Orlando, Fla. – a 1-0 result against Minnesota United and a 6-2 wipeout by Orlando City SC.
