The New England Club Soccer League only launched in May 2020 – during the COVID-19 pandemic no less – but it’s already achieved considerable growth amid an ever-changing youth soccer landscape.
Now with 20 clubs and 260 teams, the NECSL is two weekends into its inaugural season, navigating restrictions and guidelines particularly across Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. If all goes to plan, its fall season will run from Sept. 13 up through just before Thanksgiving.
Steering efforts is league director Sean Carey, who began the NECSL after departing the New England Premiership earlier this spring. Carey helped grow the NEP from an idea to a pillar in the region, and this new venture carries aspirations as well.
