LANCASTER, Mass. -- All season long, the members of the Worcester Academy boys soccer team had redemption on their minds.
After falling short in its bid for a championship last year, Worcester Academy was on a mission to be the last team standing in 2022. That mindset, however, faced its stiffest obstacle of the fall in Sunday’s NEPSAC Class A championship game against Milton Academy on a chilly and windy afternoon at the FC Stars Complex.
But top-seeded Worcester rose to the occasion and fulfilled its goal, defeating Milton in a memorable seven-round penalty kick shootout for the championship, after the contest was knotted at 2-2 after regulation and overtime. These teams also met for the title back in 2019, with Worcester also winning that one in PKs.
