It wasn’t always easy, but in the inaugural season of the Girls Academy league, NEFC’s U-15 squad was the last team standing.
NEFC won its last three games by a goal apiece to narrowly win the GA’s U-15 division on Sunday. After winning two of three matches in the group stage and winning the quarterfinal round in California, NEFC traveled to Greensboro, N.C., to earn the national title.
The club had to get through some nailbiters in order to be crowned champions. NEFC girls director of coaching Nick Burke said the team scored late go-ahead goals in the quarterfinal and semifinal to keep its season alive.
