When Scott Wiercinski recruited Moctar Niang to Bowdoin, he saw a “gentle giant.”
After all, the New York City native’s potential – then on Manhattan SC Paris Saint Germain 96, a club team featuring the likes of Leeds United midfielder Jack Harrison, current Middlebury standout Daniel O’Grady and Wheaton star striker Amara Sesay – was hard to ignore.
“That was a really fun team to be a part of,” Niang, now a senior, said.
But Wiercinski also saw a player who, after time in the right environment, could develop into one of the NESCAC’s premier midfielders.
