The post-Development Academy era in New England has some clarity, with news dropping Wednesday that 65 academy clubs are joining 30 Major League Soccer ones across the United States and Canada to form an Elite Youth Development Platform (EYDP).
That group includes all eight local clubs – spanning from Connecticut to New Hampshire – that previously participated in U.S. Soccer’s DA, a high-end league that was abruptly canceled exactly four weeks ago during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Directors around the region told New England Soccer Journal that more details will surface in the coming weeks, but for now it’s clear that U-13 through U-19 teams will follow a similar 10-month model that the DA was known for.
