There was no soccer ball involved, but Mike Hagerty had a clear view of his future back in the 1980s when he was a student-athlete at Deering High School in Portland, Maine.
He was coaching at a youth basketball clinic, along with the rest of his hoops team, when Hagerty’s eyes were opened.
"After doing that I was like, 'there’s no way I’m not coaching the rest of my life,'" Hagerty said. "I loved it."
He started coaching soccer while he was still playing the sport at Saint Anselm College, where he was a captain and all-conference player, and he’s pretty much been at it ever since.
