WORCESTER, Mass. – The slipper was a perfect fit.
After going just 4-9-5 in the regular season, Newton North ran the table in the postseason. The 31st-seeded Tigers rattled off six straight wins in the tournament and capped off their improbable Cinderella run on Saturday, winning the MIAA boys Division 1 title over St. John's Shrewsbury, 2-1, at Worcester State University.
It's the first state title in program history for Newton North.
“They wanted to leave a legacy,” Tigers coach Roy Dow said. “These guys have put a number on a banner that no one has done before. They wanted to do it. They were focused, and they rose to that challenge.”
