WORCESTER, Mass. -- Wellesley girls’ soccer coach Dave Wainwright is quick to call Annie Comella and Emily Burnham “the dynamic duo.”
The pair have played together since they were kids, so Comella and Burnham have built-in chemistry that’s evident when either of them has the ball on offense.
Late in the first half of Saturday’s MIAA Division 1 state championship, the connection was on display. Comella broke through the defense, dribbled down the right wing, and slipped a perfect cross to Burnham inside the box. The attacking midfielder did the rest, burying a shot into the bottom right corner to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead.
