DANVERS, Mass. – Despite the cold temperature outside, St. John's Prep got hot in the second half.
After falling behind 1-0 early, the No. 4 Eagles came alive for a pair of second-half goals to knock off defending champion No. 5 Concord-Carlisle in the MIAA Division 1 quarterfinals.
Junior defender James Minor got the comeback started when he buried a penalty kick in the 52nd minute to tie it, 1-1, making the Patriots pay for a handball in the box off a corner.
With just five minutes to go in regulation, Ryan King came through in the clutch for SJP once again, scoring at the far post for the 2-1 lead after a volley off Roman Hlatshwayo's throw-in.
The second-half heroics for the Prep came after CC took an early lead in the 22nd minute when Jamo Velez finished a shot to the far corner in transition.
St. John's Prep will advance to face Catholic Conference rival No. 8 St. John's Shrewsbury in the semifinals. The date, time and location are yet to be announced.
