CONCORD, Mass. — One of the highlights of the Massachusetts high school soccer calendar is now in the rearview.
The 18th annual Kicks for Cancer event was this past Saturday at Concord-Carlisle, featuring some field hockey and football games for the hosts and, most prominently, a ton of MIAA soccer.
In total, there were 12 boys and girls varsity matches to keep track of. I spent the day focusing on three boys varsity games that caught my attention the most.
First, St. John’s Prep took a dramatic 2-1 decision over Needham bright and early in a game that featured plenty of second-half excitement. Shortly after, Bedford rode an early goal to a 1-0 win over Acton-Boxborough. I returned for the nightcap between Concord-Carlisle and Lincoln-Sudbury as the latter scored two goals in short order in the first half before more insurance late in regulation for a 3-0 upset. It marked CC’s first loss since 2022.
Let's dive into nine standouts from the event.
