New England’s presence during the 2021 NWSL season will be slightly smaller, with forward McKenzie Meehan (Glocester, R.I.) announcing her retirement from professional soccer earlier this week.
Meehan, 26, played four seasons in the NWSL upon being selected 34th overall in the 2017 NWSL Draft by Sky Blue FC. The former Boston College star was traded to the North Carolina Courage in 2019, finishing as part of their NWSL Championship-winning team that year.
Meehan said she’s going into management consulting at McKinsey & Company, a globally-renowned firm, so it’s a new chapter as her playing days conclude.
