There are a lot of ways to measure the importance of Matt Turner to the New England Revolution organization at this stage of his career, but a small gathering on the field after a recent match probably explains the expansive nature of his influence most deftly.
Turner stood on the Gillette Stadium field in the wake of a 0-0 draw with Real Salt Lake with a couple of special guests. The two young fans were members of the NEGU Crew, a program designed to give young cancer patients from the Jessie Rees Foundation a chance to experience Revolution games.
Former teammate and RSL midfielder Kelyn Rowe walked over to join the group. Rowe originally spearheaded the efforts during his time in Foxboro, but Turner eagerly took the lead when Rowe departed for Sporting Kansas City earlier this year.
