New England soccer made its presence felt in golden fashion Sunday night, as the U.S. Men’s National Team was crowned champion of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, defeating Mexico 1-0 in extra time on Miles Robinson’s 117th-minute header before a sold-out crowd of 61,514 fans at Allegiant Stadium.
Robinson, an Arlington, Mass., native who has emerged as a premier MLS center back for Atlanta United, scored the decisive blow in dramatic fashion, while New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner, a Fairfield University (Conn.) product, continued his meteoric rise.
Revs center back Henry Kessler also made his USMNT debut in the victory.
