Few players from New England college soccer programs can expect to perform before 60,000-plus crowds this season. But that is a prospect former Boston University star Kylie Strom is anticipating as a member of Atletico Madrid, three-time defending champion of Spain’s Liga Iberdrola.
Strom’s career has taken off since she was released by the Boston Breakers in 2017. She played the last two seasons at Sparta Prague, performing in the Champions League, then joined Atletico, making her debut in the International Champions Cup in Cary, N.C., last week.
“It kind of came out of nowhere,” Strom said of the Atletico offer. “My agent called and said, ‘You’re never going to believe it, but Atletico wants you.’ It goes to show you never really know who’s watching or when an opportunity might come, so always be ready and play your game.
