Although she was only a freshman, Kristina Kelly was expected to be a key contributor for the girls soccer team at Camden Hills Regional High School (Rockport, Maine) right away. She even moved from midfield to striker in order to get on the pitch sooner.
Kelly was nervous, but if you didn’t know her, you wouldn’t be able to tell, not even in the most pressure-packed situations.
For instance, in the northern regional finals in her freshman year (2016), Camden Hills was losing, 2-1, against Bangor with five minutes remaining. Kelly received a pass from the defense, which was clearing the ball out of the box. She raced down the field and scored the equalizer with less than four minutes left to play. Thirty seconds later and teammate Isabelle Gutheinz scored the game-winner.
