That’s the phrase Justin Donawa used when discussing the Concacaf Gold Cup, which Bermuda has reached for the first time in the country's history. The Gombey Warriors, benefactors of a tournament that has expanded from 12 to 16 teams, qualified by finishing in fifth place at the Nations League, joining Guyana as a fellow debutant.
Donawa, a former star forward at Dartmouth and the Berkshire School, isn’t exaggerating either. Bermuda is ranked 174th out of 211 teams in FIFA’s latest rankings, largely competing in Caribbean Football Union matches rather than big-ticket international ones.
