The Northeast Division of USL League Two looks to be a two-horse race, with the Western Mass Pioneers and GPS Portland Phoenix locked in first place on 20 points apiece.
But with six games left, the Boston Bolts aren’t going down without a fight, certainly not as one of the country’s most in-form teams. The group, coached by Aidan Byrne and Chris Payne, has won four of its last five games, as well as their last three by a combined 7-2 scoreline.
The outlook is tough with road games at Western Mass and GPS, but home-and-homes against struggling AC Connecticut and Seacoast United Phantoms teams could offer a boost. Payne, also the head coach at Division 2 program Assumption, acknowledged the challenge ahead when connecting with New England Soccer Journal.
