The Massachusetts-based Bay State Breakers began competing together 23 years ago as a women's Over-50 team.
The Breakers were started by Anne Strong, Lois Kessin and Christianne Joury. All of the players for the club started playing soccer after they were out of college, because opportunities for women to play sports were limited in the days pre-Title IX (passed in 1972).
In fact, many of the Breakers players were over the age 40 when they first started playing the sport, motivated to start by watching or coaching their kids.
