Hartford Athletic forward Juan Carlos Obregon Jr., tied for the USL Championship team’s goal-scoring lead (4) alongside captain Danny Barrera, is heading to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Men’s Soccer Tournament later this summer.
It was announced Friday that Obregon made Honduras’ roster after playing a key role in the Concacaf Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament this past March, scoring in the all-decisive semifinal match that bounced the United States from the quadrennial competition.
The 23-year-old is a New York City native, though has Honduran heritage through both of his parents. He often visits the Central American country, establishing a relationship with the federation during his NCAA career at Siena College.
