This weekend will be a big one for the Oakwood Soccer Club's U-17 Girls Academy team.
The squad will travel down to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., to compete for the Girls Academy Champions League title. Oakwood will enter play in the Round of 16 as the top seed. Competition to crown a champion will run from Thursday to Sunday.
The Champions League competition is an aspirational platform created to add additional quality competition for the most competitive clubs in the GA. Qualification is a reward for a consistent commitment to player development and overall success.
Participants are decided based on final league standings and consist of two two clubs from each of the seven conferences. Additionally, the top two best-performing and highest-ranked wildcard teams at the national playoff from each age group are added to the mix for a total of 16 teams per age group. Clubs and teams qualify yearly for the competition, which consists of two events during the season and culminates with a Champions League winner per age group crowned in the spring of each year.
