When all was said and done, four players with connections to New England were selected during the first two rounds of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, held Friday afternoon in Chicago, Ill.
The highest-profile pick came at No. 2, when Siad Haji (Manchester, N.H.) went to the San Jose Earthquakes. Haji, a two-year midfielder at Virginia Commonwealth University, was part of a seven-member Generation adidas class.
Landing in San Jose could serve the 19-year-old well, especially as first-year head coach Matías Almeyda rebuilds the Earthquakes. They also have a partnership with USL side Reno 1868 FC, offering another opportunity for Haji to get valuable first-team minutes.
