On Feb. 11, 2021, Shelby Hogan signed her first professional contract with Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.
It meant that the native of Franklin, Mass., who played her high school soccer at Bishop Feehan (Attleboro, Mass.), her club soccer for FC Stars ECNL and college soccer at Providence College, would have to pack her bags and move 3,000-plus miles away from her New England comfort zone to Oregon.
But, really, the trek was just a small price to pay for a 5-foot-11 goalkeeper who always had aspirations of competing against the greatest players in the world, and now finds herself in the premier women’s professional league in the United States.
