WEYMOUTH, Mass. — The postseason race in the ECNL Girls New England Conference is in full force as the regular season winds down across various age levels.
That is especially true in the 2009 age group, where several teams are battling for the final national playoff spots. In its first year as an ECNL club, South Shore Select is one of the teams in the heated playoff battle.
On Saturday afternoon, Select earned a pivotal 1-0 win over FC Stars White to remain squarely in the postseason picture with two weeks left. Locked in a scoreless draw late in the second half, Kelsey Tuttle soared down the left wing and was taken down in the box. The Class of 2027 product promptly buried the penalty kick, and Select held off a late flurry from a scrappy Stars White squad to cement the win.
Select (2-2-1) rose to fourth place in the standings, one point ahead of East Meadow for the fourth and final postseason spot. But they received all they could handle from Stars White (0-6-0) in an entertaining battle.
Several players stood out, most notably in a back-and-forth second half. Here are five standouts from the 2009 match.
