Bruce Arena has certainly solved the New England Revolution’s attacking problems since becoming the team’s sporting director/head coach in early May. The surging Eastern Conference side is averaging 1.9 goals per game since the former U.S. men’s national team manager was hired.
But Arena also appears to have righted the Revolution defensively. Under then-head coach Brad Friedel, they allowed 19 goals across a 0-3-1 stretch and were on pace to surpass the single-season goals against record of 72, set by Orlando City in 2018.
Now, the Revolution have posted three shutouts during a 10-game (6-0-4) unbeaten streak and carry momentum into Saturday’s match against Orlando at Gillette Stadium.
