After a two-year wait, a New England-based team is back atop the Division 3 men's soccer world.
Amherst ensured that on Dec. 7 when it defeated Connecticut College in the national final. Following a 0-0 draw, the Mammoths won, 4-3, in penalty kicks.
With that result, a local program has won the national final seven times in the last 10 NCAA Tournaments. In those other three seasons, New England-based teams twice finished as runner-up.
