GREENSBORO, N.C. -- We’ve all now had a chance to catch our breath after an incredible weekend of soccer at the Division 3 men’s Final Four at UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium.
Connecticut College captured its first-ever national championship with a dramatic penalty kick shootout win over NESCAC rival Amherst on Saturday night in a memorable all-New England title match.
Overall, there were three men’s games played between Friday and Saturday, and each of them was decided in overtime or PKs. In the national semis, Connecticut College beat Washington & Lee, 2-1, while Amherst defeated Chicago, 1-0. It all made for enthralling, high-level action on the pitch.
After some time to think about it, NESJ decided to hand out its own superlatives from a fantastic finish to the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
