GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Once again, New England rules Division 3 men’s soccer.
That much was secured on a drama-filled Final Four Friday at UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium. We now know that no matter what happens next, the 2021 national champion resides in our region.
In the day's first NCAA Tournament national semifinal, Connecticut College stormed back with an equalizing goal on a rocket shot from 25 yards out by senior forward MT Tshuma that hit the right post and went into the net with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation. The Camels got the game-winner with 53 seconds left in the first sudden victory overtime period, courtesy of a diving header from junior Steve Yeonas to knock off top-ranked Washington & Lee, 2-1.
In the nightcap, Amherst got a gorgeous goal on a volley, just inside the box, from junior Ignacio Cubeddu in the second overtime to defeat the University of Chicago, 1-0.
