When Chioma Okafor arrived at the Berkshire School from her home country of Malawi, she said she saw opportunities for herself in America that were not fathomable to most young players growing up in the western African country nearly 8,000 miles away.
She said she knew nothing would be handed to her, and that she would have to work extremely hard to refine her talents and become the best version of herself on the field. But she said she was determined to make all the sacrifices necessary to fulfill her potential in the sport and validate her move from the other side of the globe to pursue an improbable dream.
That dream led her from the NEPSAC program to the University of Connecticut, where Okafor has developed into one of the top collegiate players in the country.
