Another domino has fallen in the reshaping of the region’s Division 1 college conferences.
On Tuesday, Stonehill College announced that it has accepted an invitation from the Northeast Conference’s (NEC) Council of Presidents and will begin a transition to NCAA Division 1 athletics starting with the 2022-23 academic year.
That means that the school will leave Division 2 athletics after the current academic year comes to an end this spring.
Last week, Bryant University announced that it was leaving the NEC to join the America East Conference, and that void will now be filled by Stonehill, which has been a longtime member of D2’s Northeast-10 Conference.
