Some seniors will go onto professional careers in Major League Soccer, the United Soccer League or overseas, leaving gaps behind. Coaching staffs will surely try to fill the holes with recruits in the Class of 2019, but also hope returners can propel up the depth chart and become a centerpiece.
Sparking those offseason efforts are the abbreviated spring season and summer stints with National Premier Soccer League or USL League Two (formerly PDL) teams. This winter period also offers an optimal chance to recover from any injuries that may have hindered or shortened a season.
