When commenting on Boston College’s incoming Class of 2023, first-year head coach Jason Lowe – somewhat tongue-in-cheek – was candid about how his program will navigate the recruiting landscape.
There are two dominant leagues, the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) and Development Academy (DA), and a third shortly behind in the National Premier League (NPL). In the South and West region, the Developmental Player League (DPL) even recently sprouted up.
“Sometimes it’s almost a case of just tell us where to go,” joked Lowe, a former associate head coach at Wake Forest.
The point being, Lowe said, is there are so many domains in girls soccer that it’s not always clear where to look. Each has recruiting showcases, national-level tournaments and league play – with only so many weekends and staff coaches to go around.
