FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Bruce Arena is easing his way into his latest rescue operation, serving as head coach/sporting director of the New England Revolution.
Arena conducted his first training session with the team on Tuesday, two weeks after his hiring was announced, and made it clear he is in charge. The five-time MLS Cup winner, however, left his start date as coach vague.
Arena noted he is still learning players’ names, and said he could leave interim coach Mike Lapper in place to guide New England when it visits the LA Galaxy on Sunday. Arena led the Galaxy for nearly a decade, coaching global stars such as Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and David Beckham.
