Repeating in Class B was always going to prove difficult for Brooks.
Standouts from its 2017 title-winning team graduated onto the Division I ranks – center back Marcelo Lage (Middleton, Mass.) to George Washington, goalkeeper Christian Garner (Orleans, Mass.) to Boston College and center mid Andrew Stevens (Marshfield, Mass.) to Columbia – and left behind several glaring holes.
The return of striker Duncan Sutherland (Millville, Mass.) for his senior year would always buoy matters, but dominance in the NEPSAC and Independent School League is hard to maintain.
"We had a lot of young guys, so it was all about who really wanted to do this," Sutherland said.
