While growing up, Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) set her sights on becoming a professional goalkeeper.
But finding a team with an open goalkeeping position was not easy, and the Fairfield University alum kicked off her career backing up and splitting duties with Alyssa Naeher (Stratford, Conn.) and Hope Solo, as well as Sweden’s Hedvig Lindahl. That’s two future World Cup winners with the United States, plus one of Europe’s all-time greats.
It took a while, but Maron has established herself among the top ‘keepers in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan and is leading third-place Kristianstads DFF’s campaign for a place in the Champions League.
